Waterlollies

"Incredible, stunning, imaginitive! :D"

submission: Waterlollies
date: November 7, 2007

It has a way about it. A feeling, you could say, something like a poem.

And Adam Phillips is the poet. Not only does this animation sound beautiful (thanks to Nathan McCree's score, no doubt) but it also is animated with such precise and wonderful detail that arguably it exceeds that of professional, commercial movies like Ghost in the shell and Akira in the graphics department.

Also stunning is the world you have crafted, and the confidence you take as you introduce new characters and situations without the help of dialog or a clear narrative. A master storyteller, truly.

The story in itself, however, shows traces of irony and wit. Bitey, the protagonist, appears to be mischievous and annoying, yet ultimately he comes off as innocent and lovable. His mischief and selfishness didn't help once he met the boy in the river, and only after eating dozens of these strange spherical droplets does he find out they in fact combust and grow once they are knocked about - resulting in him having to keep away from the creatures he previously annoyed or hurt.

I thought he would have died from hitting the ground, but apparently they just pop up out his mouth. No doubt painful, but he deserved worse.

All in all, just another incredible movie, and I'll give this my first 10/10 in ages. Hell, if I could I'd rate it higher. Please reply and good luck on any future movies you have planned. 5/5.

Author's Response:

a poet huh? Thanks :D
Bitey is such a little bastard that he always deserves more than he gets, but I didn't want him dying.. I just wanted him to think that he'll die. The lil bastard.

anks again

Dumbledore is Gay

"Really great"

submission: Dumbledore is Gay
date: November 7, 2007

JK Rowling was either looking for extra book sales to the homosexuals or she is just money hungry. This animation was hilarious because it's exactly how I thought Dumbledore would be once I heard the news.

I also wanted to congratulate you for for getting it out pretty damn fast, only weeks after the announcement. Thanks for the extra humor in my day. 4/5.

Your welcome and I appreciate the review.

You and I are just about on the same page except I always thought of him as a massive child predator. They gay news just added to the already rich story I had concocted.

"Sigh"

Don't listen to "GigaAndy " or other lazy, runescape-hating reviewers. Compared to most of the other stuff on Newgrounds, the animation was very well done, with well-preformed voice acting and some nice music. The story was nice for me, a runescape player, to experience as it showed an extra side to the game I love, like the wallpapers and player art on the website.

And the fact "GigaAndy" subtracted marks because it was runescape just proves his incompetence to write a proper review. Even if I wasn't a runescape player I would still notice the extra work and polish that went into this. 4/5.

The uh, shoddy graphics kind of ruin the impact of this clever movie. 3/5 =)

Yeah, unfortunately that's what I had to do to make it work. It happens sometimes. *shrug* Thanks for the review!

Runesuck

"Wonderful parody, interesting characters and scrip"

submission: Runesuck
date: October 1, 2007

I'm an avid runescape player myself, and your hilarious brand of parody and humor caught me off guard. Your an absolute genius and the characters represent that.

The notion of an annoying, naive brother communicating with his chilled out sibling sounds pretty good on paper. But a wonderful script and animation style brings it all depth and character, yet you still manage to keep some wonderful jokes that any runescape player, like me, would understand.

Overall, really well done; the only problems I have with it are the Mr T jokes (predictable and cliche) and the short story on the duct tape, that seemed only to be implemented for a little depth but ended up becoming boring and swear-ish.

Still, it's a wonderful animation and the series is equally well done. 4/5.

TANKMEN 1.5

"Dual layered storytelling"

submission: TANKMEN 1.5
date: October 1, 2007

A very enjoyable romp, complete with a 'Birds and the Bees' talk (which can only be described as absolutely essential) and a reason behind the hilarius laughter at that guys random death in Episode 1.

Brilliant stuff, I continue to increasingly enjoy this series. 4/5.

TANKMEN

"Hilarius and brilliant!"

submission: TANKMEN
date: October 1, 2007

Absolutely wonderful! You have a brilliant brand of humour, Utah, which can only be described as a cross between intelligent dialog with a random situation and event. Some of the oddball characters in the Tankmen series really entertain, and the reason behind the guys death while trying to call the Tankmen over (found out in episode 1.5) is nothing short of a brilliant use of dual-time layered storytelling.

I do have a question, though: What inspired NewGrounds original Tankmen design (the little man in the tank)?

Anyway, brilliant stuff here, and worthy of a solid 4/5; along with it's sequel.

HALOMEN

"Enjoyable and relaxed"

submission: HALOMEN
date: October 1, 2007

I really enjoyed this Animation. It had a nice, clean flow about the animation and the sound almost resembled Utah's own voices and effects, which isn't that easy to do considering his unique style. the story was interesting, but even though this may just be a tribute/spoof video I found some of the funnier subplots were undeveloped; like the Flood's growing on one of the Tankmen and his Roommates story (the best parts).

None the less, it was an enjoyably crude film and I hope to see more from you in the future. 3/5.

Cuboy Ep.2

"Innovative, unique, dazzling"

submission: Cuboy Ep.2
date: September 29, 2007

This is a truly incredible movie. I'm surprised nobody has thought of it before! The notion of a cube-shape orientated world set against a wildly unfamiliar scene set up is awesome. The superb visuals show no evidence of any tweening or jerkiness, and the entire film is TV-quality, both technically and content-wise.

The humour is spot-on with it's surprisingly random yet intelligent style, though a hint at cliche story conventions kind of ruin the impact. It could also have been funnier, perhaps by eliminating some of the slapstick. A solid 4/5.

Author's Response:

hey thanks for the intelligent review. I agree with most of what youre saying. Altho... cuboy animation is probably around 90% tweened

"Heartwarming and actual emotion"

submission: :the Composer:
date: September 20, 2007

This was superb; let alone the brilliant classical music (composed by Jazza as well!) and clean, crisp detailed graphics, the emotion contained within this animation is astounding. The lack of voices compared to the arguing parents shouting adds to the beautiful encore of coming-of-age music development.

It really does show the brilliance of classical music compared to the modern-day trash of pop and hardcore metal music. Classical shows real emotion, compared to the enraged screaming and pain contained in the other format. For such a brilliant film I salute you with a 5/5, keep up the wonderful work Jazza.
